Make Food Accessible for All Oregonians during COVID-19 Pandemic

Due to an unprecedented spike in layoffs, the COVID-19 pandemic is placing enormous strain on Oregon's network of food pantries and free meal programs.

Each week, Ecumenical Ministries of Orgeon helps feed thousands of low-income families and community members living with HIV/AIDS. Our Northeast Emergecy Food Program (NEFP) and HIV Services have witnessed a dramatic increase in demand at the same time their volunteer bases have dwindled due to COVID-19.

Contact your legislators today demanding them to support food access for:

  1. Low-income Oregonians: Before the COVID-19 outbreak, NEFP served an average of 100 families during a typical three-hour window. On Saturday, March 21, NEFP served over 600 families (representing over 2,000 individuals) in two hours, at a time when NEFP’s volunteer capacity has dropped by two-thirds. This sharp increase in need is due to layoffs because of the pandemic, and because NEFP has become a hub for other food programs running low on resources and volunteers.
  2. Immunocompromised Oregonians with HIV/AIDS: The COVID-19 pandemic has quickly doubled the demand for medically-appropriate meals for vulnerable individuals with HIV/AIDS across the six-county region served by EMO's HIV Day Center and Daily Bread Express programs. COVID-19 is merciless in its targeting of our elderly neighbors and those with compromised immune systems. We can help community members with HIV/AIDS by helping them self-isolate by providing medically-appropriate meals for pick up or through home delivery.

We deeply appreciate for your support. Be well and stay healthy!
